Young people in Kenya are facing unprecedented levels of stress. From unemployment and academic pressure to family expectations, financial instability, relationships, and the silent battles of depression or anxiety.
This survey aims to understand the real stressors affecting young people aged 15–35 years in Kenya and explore the specific barriers they face when trying to maintain their mental well-being. By gathering data directly from young people themselves, we want to uncover the root causes of poor mental health outcomes, how they are currently coping (helpful or unhelpful), and what kind of support systems they wish existed. The findings will guide better mental health programs, advocacy efforts, policy recommendations, and possibly community-based interventions that actually reflect young people's realities.
Collecting this data will allow us to:
Identify the most common stressors young people are facing on a daily basis (e.g., school, work, finances, social pressure, social media, gender expectations, loneliness, etc.)
Assess the level of awareness and accessibility of mental health support services.
Understand how different groups (e.g., male vs female, urban vs rural youth) experience stress differently .
