SFA Foundation and International Vaccine Institute Partner to Strengthen Global Health and Vaccine Equity

The partnership reflects the shared vision of both organisations to empower vaccine equity, impact, and sustainability globally while addressing Africa’s sustainable development challenges.

Nairobi, Kenya | Seoul, Republic of Korea

Science for Africa Foundation (SFA Foundation) and the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a collaborative framework aimed at advancing global health through equitable clinical research, sustainable vaccine manufacturing, innovation, and capacity building.

The MoU, effective for five years, provides a framework for joint projects with both SFA Foundation and IVI committing to leveraging their expertise and resources to achieve the shared goal of improving global health outcomes.

Under the MoU, SFA Foundation and IVI will work together in the following areas:

  • Clinical trials and validation: Supporting Africa-led clinical trials informed by public health needs.
  • Sustainable manufacturing and accelerators: Promoting vaccine manufacturing hubs in Africa, advancing technology transfer, and establishing linkages with global innovation accelerators.
  • Innovation & R&D: Driving joint research initiatives and advancing vaccine innovation projects.
  • Human talent development: Strengthening capacity-building programmes, facilitating knowledge exchange, and skill development.

The partnership reflects the shared vision of both organisations to empower vaccine equity, impact, and sustainability globally while addressing Africa’s sustainable development challenges.

Dr Thomas Kariuki, Chief Executive Officer of SFA Foundation, said, “Africa’s science and innovation ecosystems are critical to solving the continent’s health challenges. This partnership with IVI will help catalyse efforts to strengthen vaccine manufacturing, research, and talent development in Africa.”

Dr Jerome H. Kim, Director General of IVI, said, “This partnership with the Science for Africa Foundation reflects our shared commitment to advancing vaccine science and access for global health impact. Together, we aim to strengthen the African-led and -owned end-to-end vaccine research, development, and manufacturing ecosystem.”
