The Science for Africa Foundation (SFA Foundation) and the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen African-led science, evidence-informed policymaking, and research capacity across the continent.

The five-year agreement underscores a shared commitment to embed science at the heart of Africa’s development agenda, ensuring that research not only generates knowledge but also drives policy, innovation, and sustainable impact.

Key Areas of Collaboration

  • Knowledge Generation & Policy Impact: Joint initiatives to translate research evidence into actionable policies that address Africa’s most pressing development challenges.
  • Capacity Strengthening: Investment in training, mentorship, and institutional development to nurture Africa’s next generation of scientists and research leaders.
  • Science Financing & Resource Mobilisation: Development of Africa-led models for sustainable financing, including co-designed fundraising strategies and innovative mechanisms.
  • Operational Synergies: Collaboration in compliance, governance, and Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP) to strengthen institutional systems and accountability.

This collaboration reflects the growing recognition that African science must be at the centre of global progress. By combining APHRC’s expertise in evidence generation and policy translation with SFA Foundation’s mandate to fund and promote African-led science, the partnership will elevate the continent’s role in shaping research agendas and delivering real-world impact.
